What is a Tummy Tuck??

A tummy tuck, otherwise known as an abdominoplasty, is when excess skin and stretch marks are removed from the lower abdomen and the muscles are tightened.  The procedure makes the abdomen flatter and removes skin that has been stretched by having babies or losing weight.

Many women, after having several children lose the ability to flatten the lower and mid abdomen.  This happens because the connective tissue is stretched and no matter how much working out you do, the connective tissue remains unaffected.

Others gain and lose substantial weight leaving excess skin and sometimes stretch marks.  In this case, the skin has lost its ability to contract over the smaller abdomen.  To re-gain a youthful tummy, it must be removed.

Still others have had hysterectomies, c-sections, or other pelvic surgery and have an unsightly scar that bulges.  The tummy tuck is a great option for all of the above problems.

There are two types of tummy tuck, the full tummy tuck, and the mini tummy tuck.

The full tummy tuck....

full tummy tuck  The incision starts about 3 inches above the start of the vaginal opening and goes approximately from hip to hip.  The skin from the top of this incision to just above the umbilicus is removed and the skin from the upper abdomen is pulled down and sewn.  A new opening for the umbilicus is created and the muscles are tightened.  Be sure to check our portfolio page to see before and after pictures.

mini tummy tuckThe mini tummy tuck is for those that need minimal skin tightened, are wanting to get rid of stretch marks low on the abdomen, or need a scar revision and tightening from previous surgery.

COMBINED PROCEDURES

If you have ever said, "I would get a tummy tuck if they could do my hysterectomy, gall bladder, or hernia at the same time", this is your lucky day.  In conjunction with the Gynecologists we perform many hysterectomy/tummy tuck combinations.  Hernias and gall bladders are also done in conjunction saving anesthesia AND recovery time.
